DATABASES
What are Subscription Databases?
Subscription databases are collections of online encyclopedia, newspaper, magazine, and journal articles, as well as recordings, videos, and images which are reliable, searchable, and placed in categories for easy access. To allow their students and patrons access to these databases, schools, libraries, and universities pay a fee to the companies who create and maintain them.

How Do I Know Which Database to Choose?
The key to finding the right database is knowing what's in it. Here are some questions to ask about any database before you use it.
What Subject Area(s) Does It Cover? Note what subject areas are covered to ensure that you are using the correct database for your topic. The databases on the Vernon Library website are listed by subject, for example, social studies, literature, science, etc.
If you are not sure, then start with one that covers all topics such as Britannica, Research in Context or Kids InfoBits.

How Do I Cite a Database?
Citing your sources is very important, especially if you want a good grade!
You are ethically obligated to do so. Please see Mrs. Parente if you have any questions about citing.
Almost every database article has a link to click for a citation that will pop up on the screen. It will offer you a few citation styles like MLA or APA. Choose whichever your teacher has asked for and then export it into your NoodleTools account or Google Drive account or download it directly into your paper or project. Look at the image below, and note the "Citation Tools" link under the "Tools" heading on the right.
